The Training Ground for Future Deep Tech Leaders

Master Research Commercialization. Lead the Deep Tech Revolution.

MIMIR Fellows is an 6-month program for ambitious students and early-career professionals who want to master research commercialization. Through hands-on training, expert-led discussions, and real-world experience in startups, venture capital, and tech transfer, Fellows gain the skills to turn cutting-edge science into impactful businesses.

We’re building a critical mass of experts to help bring science into society—because breakthrough research deserves to change the world.

Program structure

  • MIMIR Fellows is an invite-only program for students truly interested in deep tech and research commercialization. We seek individuals with a curious, entrepreneurial mindset—those who aren’t afraid to build from scratch. If you haven’t received an invite but believe you belong, reach out to the responsible person for your local Fellows chapter.

To secure their place, Fellows must confirm their internship position during the application period.

  • Fellows complete curated readings to establish a common foundation in research commercialization, venture capital, and startups. This ensures all participants arrive prepared to engage at the highest level.

  • On-site intensive two-weeks, with 40+ sessions led by investors, founders, policymakers, and industry experts. Fellows engage in systemic discussions on research commercialization, attend ecosystem events, and exclusive dinners with sponsors. This is where they build the network and knowledge to navigate deep tech.

  • Fellows gain hands-on experience at a startup, venture capital firm, research group about to spin off, or a technology transfer office. This real-world exposure is critical in bringin learnings to practice.

  • Fellows don’t just learn—they build. Each cohort designs and executes a project that advances MIMIR’s mission of strengthening the research commercialization ecosystem.

The project must include an international trip, ensuring a global perspective from the start. Many of Finland’s most impactful initiatives, like Aaltoes and MIMIR itself, began as network-driven exchange trips. This tradition continues, shaping the next wave of deep tech leaders.

  • Fellows commit to building the MIMIR movement—whether by launching new initiatives or strengthening existing ones. Their long-term engagement cements their role in shaping the future of research commercialization.

FAQs

  • The programs are invite only. We invite people who are driven by the MIMIR mission to create the world’s best research commercialization system.

We also look for curious, entrepreneurial people who take responsibility and are easy to get along with.

  • The MIMIR Fellows program is free of charge for those who complete it.

Discontinuation of the program (unless force majeure) constitutes a breach of 3000€, which is paid directly to the rest of the group for the final project budget.

  • Fellows must secure their own internship, as finding the right fit is part of the learning experience. Most positions aren’t publicly posted, so the best approach is to send open applications, highlighting how you can add value rather than asking about vacancies.

    Where to look:

    • Startups: Focus on those that recently raised funding, as they’re likely hiring.

    • VC firms: Many have ongoing intern programs and prioritize initiative over finance backgrounds.

    • Research groups: Opportunities usually come through universities, professors, or researchers.

While MIMIR doesn’t provide placements, we offer guidance and recommendations when relevant.

  • No.

In case of exams or other critical non-movable engagements, flag these when applying and we will go over them case by case.

  • Probably not.

The bootcamp is very intensive, with days being constant engagement 09-17, often with evening program as well.

Historically, fellows have not been able to study or work during the bootcamp.
